Language grows through interaction. The Power of Talk webinar series, presented by Dr. Allison Slone, Curriculum Designer for IMSE and Ed.D., CCC-SLP, Reading Science, explores how intentional, purposeful conversations support students’ language development and lay the groundwork for literacy learning. Across three sessions, educators will explore how talk builds strong language foundations, deepens comprehension during read-alouds, and strengthens students’ ability to express ideas through storytelling. Grounded in research and practical classroom strategies, each session provides educators with concrete tools they can immediately apply to amplify student voice and language growth.

Part 1: Strong Roots for Lifelong Literacy

Early oral language provides the foundation for later reading and writing success. In this webinar, presented by Dr. Allison Slone, Curriculum Designer for IMSE and Ed.D., CCC-SLP, Reading Science, educators will examine how early language development supports literacy acquisition, review key milestones in language and literacy development, and consider when variation may indicate risk. This session emphasizes how intentional, responsive conversations within everyday classroom interactions accelerate language growth.
