IMSE OG Certification is for those who are ready to take their understanding and practice of the methodology to the next level!

IMSE Comprehensive OG Certification

This certification is ideal for educators working with students who are at a K-3 reading level, as well as those who wish to work towards an IMSE Specialist Certification (see below). Comprehensive/Comprehensive Orton-Gillingham Plus practicum: participants must have completed the Comprehensive course or Comprehensive Orton-Gillingham Plus and the Phonological Awareness course.

The PA course is offered as a live virtual course or as an asynchronous course. We are offering the live virtual PA course a few times each month. Find more information about it here. Applicants are able to purchase the asynchronous course and complete it at their convenience. Participants who have completed a minimum of 12.5 hours of phonological instruction through a college level course or different program may apply for a waiver for the IMSE PA course requirement.

Certification Application Periods

IMSE only offers one application period for certification. Once the maximum number of applications have been received, all other applicants will be put on a waitlist for the current application period only. Once all available practicum openings have been filled, no other applicants will be accepted.

If a practicum opening becomes available, applicants on the waitlist will be contacted on a first-come-first-serve basis. If not accepted in the current application period, all applicants including those on the waitlist, must reapply with current and updated information during the next application period.

The application period is now closed.

IMSE is thrilled by the high volume of applications we received for the 2021 practicum enrollment period. At this time, our waitlist is full and we are not able to accept additional applications. We hope you will consider applying during our next enrollment window that will begin August 1st 2022.

Ohio Residents

IMSE can support Ohio educators in meeting the Ohio requirements for K-3 teachers and District/Site Specialists.

K-3 Teachers:
As an IDA accredited program, per the Dyslexia Committee’s Guidebook, Ohio K-3 educators can accomplish their required professional development training in the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy by completing either IMSE’s 30-hr Comprehensive (Grades K-2/3) OR 30 hr Intermediate training (Grades 3-5). If you have already completed one of those two IMSE courses, you have successfully met the requirement.

District/Site Intervention Specialists:
One path to meeting the requirement for Ohio’s district/site specialist, per the Dyslexia Committee’s Guidebook, is obtaining the CERI’s (Center for Effective Reading Instruction) Structured Literacy Interventionist Certification. IMSE’s practicum may be used to apply for CERI’s Structured Literacy Interventionist certification.

Educators that complete one IMSE practicum may apply for the CERI Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist Certificate.
