imse instructor teaching orton gillingham approach

Receiving your IMSE OG Certification ensures that you are confident in using IMSE’s OG methodology. During the certification process, you will have an invaluable opportunity for personalized feedback from IMSE Master Instructors. IMSE OG Certification is for those who are ready to take their understanding and practice of the methodology to the next level!

IMSE Comprehensive OG Certification

This certification is ideal for educators working with students who are at a K-3 reading level, as well as those who wish to work towards an IMSE Specialist Certification (see below).

Step 1: Orton-Gillingham Comprehensive Training

K-3 Reading Level

This 30-hour training is a hands-on, personalized session that provides a complete understanding of IMSE's Orton-Gillingham method and the skills necessary to apply it in the classroom, small group, or one-on-one. This course focuses on phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. After participating in this training, teachers will be able to assess, evaluate, and teach children how to read, write, and spell proficiently.

Participants will be required to submit benchmarking and progress monitoring data, submit reports, complete assignments and required readings, and take an exit exam upon completion of the practicum.

3-5 Reading Level (or older student working far below reading level)

IMSE’s Intermediate Training is designed for upper elementary educators who possess a solid understanding of phonology. The course is aimed at helping upper elementary students or older students who have experienced continued reading difficulties. To help achieve this, participants will learn how to teach advanced spelling rules, encoding and decoding with seven syllable types, and vocabulary. This course also gives a more in-depth study on orthography and morphology.
