IMSE Impact FAQ

When does IMSE Impact Launch?

The IMSE Impact Structured Literacy Professional Development training schedule goes live on February 8, 2022. However, classes and programs do not begin until June 6, 2022. You can still sign up for IMSE training prior to June 6th, and you will receive any materials updates needed free of charge to ensure you are fully aligned with IMSE Impact programming.

Why is IMSE updating its programs and materials?

IMSE continually reviews and improves its curriculum. This current update takes advantage of the latest Science of Reading research. IMSE has incorporated an updated scope and sequence for its Comprehensive Orton-Gillingham Plus program, introducing easier sounds first so that students can quickly gain confidence.

The sequence is still organized so that after four weeks, students are able to start writing words, and after nine weeks, they are able to start writing sentences. By creating more age-appropriate instruction throughout the program and setting more realistic expectations for students, IMSE Impact makes learning to read an easier and more positive experience for students and teachers alike.

I’ve already taken IMSE training, do I need to get re-trained?

No! If you’ve been trained by IMSE and are having success in your classroom, there is no need to change. If you are interested in adapting your teaching to the latest updates, we will provide you with a free digital new content guide and video that include the words, sentences, scope and sequence, and digital decodable readers for Comprehensive Orton-Gillingham trained individuals. We are also offering 25% off IMSE Impact Comprehensive Orton-Gillingham+ Teacher Guides and classroom materials.

For those who have taken the Intermediate training and want to learn more about the new IMSE Impact Morphology Plus program, we are offering 25% off the new teacher guides through December 2022. We’re also extending a 25% discount, to previously trained educators, on all new products through December 2022 if you would like to purchase materials from the upcoming programs.

What is included in each new IMSE Impact course?

You can see the full details of what is included in each IMSE Impact course on our Training Descriptions page.

Is IMSE Impact still Structured Literacy and aligned with the Science of Reading?

Yes! IMSE courses are now better aligned with the Simple View of Reading and other research in the Science of Reading.

Should I stay signed up for the IMSE training before June 6th? How will I get the latest IMSE has to offer?

We encourage you to keep your training scheduled even if it is prior to June 6th. You will be provided everything you need to get aligned with the new approach to our classroom programming – free of charge. The new materials will be available through your imse.com profile.

How do I sign up for IMSE Impact training?

IMSE Impact trainings begin June 6th and you can register on the Training Schedule page. If you would like to schedule an IMSE Impact district training, reach out to our sales team via phone (800) 646-9788 or email info@imse.com

What do I do if I have an old IMSE voucher – can I use it for the new training?

Previously purchased vouchers can be used for IMSE Impact Professional Development training. New supplies will not be shipped until May 2022, therefore if you register now you will not receive supplies until then.

What is the difference between….

a. Comprehensive Orton-Gillingham and Comprehensive Orton-Gillingham+ training?

IMSE has incorporated an updated scope and sequence for its Comprehensive Orton-Gillingham Plus program, introducing easier sounds first so that students can quickly gain confidence.

The sequence is still organized so that after four weeks, students are able to start writing words, and after nine weeks, they are able to start writing sentences. By creating more age-appropriate instruction throughout the program and setting more realistic expectations for students, IMSE Impact makes learning to read an easier and more positive experience for students and teachers alike.

b. Intermediate Orton-Gillingham and Morphology+ training?

The new IMSE Impact Structured Literacy Programs more clearly delineate professional development and classroom programs between its K-2 and 3-5 offerings. The intermediate-level Morphology Plus program no longer overlaps with components of the foundational Comprehensive Orton-Gillingham+ program, allowing a more  in-depth focus on affixes, greek and latin bases, and direct application to vocabulary, fluency, and reading comprehension topics. Encoding, decoding, and red words training remain in the Comprehensive program and are also available as an asynchronous video instruction add-on.

Will my digital products still align with the new IMSE Impact program?

With changes to IMSE’s scope and sequence, previously purchased digital products will not be aligned with IMSE Impact programs. There will be all-new digital materials to align with IMSE Impact Structured Literacy Professional Development programs. You will have access to a 25% discount on digital materials if you have formerly been trained in an IMSE program.

I took the “old” IMSE Comprehensive Professional Development, which included some work in morphology. Do I still need the new Morphology+ training?

The new Morphology+ program no longer overlaps with components of the foundational Comprehensive Orton-Gillingham+ program, enabling more time to be spent on vocabulary, fluency, and reading comprehension topics. Today’s training delivers the same proven literacy instruction that it always has, allowing those previously trained to continue teaching with the existing guide or invest just a few hours to become familiar with the latest research in Structured Literacy.

Has the cost of IMSE training increased with the new programs?

At this time the cost of IMSE Impact training is remaining the same.

How does this affect the practicum to obtain certification?

If you took the Comprehensive Orton-Gillingham course between August 1, 2020, and June 6, 2022, you can still apply for the Comprehensive practicum (we recommend watching the refresher video if it has been more than a year since your training). Candidates can use the previous scope and sequence (Recipe for Reading). Candidates also have the option to purchase updated materials at a discount and use the updated scope and sequence. Beginning with the fall 2022 enrollment, all candidates must complete the IMSE Phonological Awareness course.

  • Individuals completing the Comprehensive OG Plus course in 2022 can apply during open enrollment and use the content and materials from the course in the practicum. Again, the Phonological Awareness course is a requirement to apply. If you took the Intermediate course between August 1, 2020, and June 6, 2022, you can still apply for the Intermediate practicum (we recommend watching the refresher video if it has been more than a year since your training). Candidates also have the option to purchase updated materials at a discount and use those.

  • Individuals completing the Morphology Plus course MUST be certified in the Comprehensive (previous or current scope & sequence) in order to apply for the Morphology Plus practicum. It will be a continuum where participants first apply for the Comprehensive and then apply for the Morphology Plus to obtain a specialist certification.
