IMSE can support Utah educators in meeting the
requirements for K-3 educators

Certification requirements for Utah Residents are slightly different than for other states.

Which Certification Path Is Appropriate for You?

When providing intervention, appropriate instruction and materials should be
matched to target student needs. Utah Tier II certification is a supplemental
intervention program while Utah Tier III is an intensive intervention program.
 

UTAH TIER II - 30 HOUR              UTAH TIER III - 60 HOUR

Utah Tier II 30 Hour Clinical Practicum Requirements
  • Participants must complete all lessons within 12 months of approval letter date. Lessons are submitted one at a time with feedback given for each. Participants will be given a one year subscription to Interactive OG, free of charge for use with the practicum.
  • Complete 30 (60 minute) small group, detailed lesson plans with reflections for the practicum. The lessons should be done with the same group of students, or class throughout the entire practicum. 
  • Read and abide by all IMSE Practicum Expectations as well as recommendations from your assigned Practicum Supervisor.  
  • Four of the 30 (60 minute) lessons must be observed by the practicum supervisor. The practicum supervisor will provide written feedback. Observations will be given a rating of Highly Effective, Effective, or Ineffective. An "Ineffective" rating may result in failure or additional observations and lessons may be required (additional fee of $350 per observation added).  
  • Administer ongoing progress monitoring using one of the approved fluency assessments( DIBELS 8th, Acadience, Aimsweb).
  • Complete and submit learning outcomes and required readings.  
  • Write and submit assessment report(s) on your student(s).  
  • Pass the KPEERI Exam.

*This practicum requires knowledge on the use of technology including uploading PDF lessons and links to videos.  You are responsible for your own knowledge and use of technology.

Practicum Observation Costs
A non-refundable, $100 fee will be assessed for the application fee. The practicum fee is $2250. This must be paid by the time you submit your first lesson. If an accepted student quits before any observations, a portion of the cost can be refunded.
 

Utah Tier III 60 Hour Clinical Practicum Requirements
  • Participants must complete all lessons within 12 months of approval letter date. (See non-fulfillment procedures). Lessons are submitted one at a time with feedback given for each. Participants will be given a one year subscription to Interactive OG, free of charge for use with the practicum.
  • Complete 60 (60 minute) small group, detailed lesson plans with reflections for the practicum. The lessons should be done with the same group of students, or class throughout the entire practicum. 
  • Read and abide by all IMSE Practicum Expectations as well as recommendations from your assigned Practicum Supervisor.
  • Five of the 60 (60 minute) lessons must be observed by the practicum supervisor. The practicum supervisor will provide written feedback. Non-refundable application fee will be processed regardless of acceptance into the practicum. 

Upon completion of the practicum, candidates would be certified to teach students in the OG methodology. Candidates are not certified nor permitted to teach other educators/instructors how to implement IMSE’s OG.

Free IOG is only for enrolled practicum students.  Failure to abide by all requirements may result in an incomplete practicum.
