Description
The IMSE Orton-Gillingham Plus Course is an interactive, hands-on training that provides educators with a deep understanding of IMSE’s enhanced Orton-Gillingham program. This accredited Structured Literacy course equips teachers with the knowledge, strategies, and tools necessary to effectively implement IMSE’s foundational literacy skills curriculum in the classroom.
Through this course, educators will explore the structure and foundation of the English language, along with the body of research known as the science of reading. Teachers will gain an understanding of how to assess and instruct students across all three tiers of Response to Intervention (RTI), including those with dyslexia. The program is designed to be implemented across all RTI tiers, with explicit guidance on adjusting instructional scaffolds to support intervention or acceleration based on student needs. Additionally, resources and support for teaching English Learners are provided. Instructional areas covered include phonological awareness, phonics, word analysis, spelling, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing.
The course provides daily lesson plans and structured routines for key literacy components such as phoneme blending and segmenting, word chaining, cumulative review, spelling, reading, vocabulary, and interactive read-alouds (focusing on oral language and comprehension). The training and curriculum materials will help prepare teachers to implement IMSE’s Structured Literacy-based foundational literacy skills curriculum across all instructional tiers.
