This course is designed to provide knowledge and strategies for intensifying instruction in reading and spelling. This asynchronous course is approximately 9 hours long.
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to identify the importance of building automaticity in the subskills of reading for fluency and comprehension; use data to identify reading issues in order to provide interventions that are differentiated for intensity and focus; use strategies for building intellectual capacity in students; and carefully monitor student performance, and provide timely affirmations and feedback.
The modules will include:
- Introduction and Research
- MTSS: Multi-Tiered System of Supports
- Building Fluency: A Multi-Layered Approach
- Intervention Activities
- Advanced Word Reading Skills
- Building Intellectual Capacity
Requirements for taking this course: Participants must have completed one of the following as a prerequisite to purchase this course:
- Introductory Orton-Gillingham
- Comprehensive Orton-Gillingham (prior to June 2022)

- Orton-Gillingham Plus (released in June 2025)

NOTE: Module 4 of the Intervention & Support for Struggling Readers Course discusses how to analyze assessments to provide supportive and intensive instruction. The instructor describes how to use assessment as a window into students’ understandings, models how to analyze students’ spellings of sounds, words, and sentences to identify gaps and confusions, and discusses how to use assessment analysis to determine starting points for small-group instruction. Assessment materials used by the instructor are aligned with Comprehensive OG+ materials received in trainings prior to June 2025; however, information the instructor presents can be correlated to materials received in OG+ trainings in June 2025 and beyond. Though there are differences, the process of analysis can be applied to assessment materials received, regardless of training date.
