Mandate Fulfillment for Schools and Districts

IMSE News

IMSE has worked with teachers, schools, and districts in several states across the country affected by mandates that require teachers to be trained in specialized reading methodologies. The mandates are often targeted at general reading, special education and dyslexia focused initiatives. Districts should consider formulating an action plan for students that are recovering literacy after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Alabama

Approved Alabama Literacy Act Intervention Program: The Institute for Multi-Sensory Education is an approved provider for Alabama's Literacy Act Intervention Program. More information on this act is available here.

Arkansas

Arkansas Reading Initiative for Student Excellence (R.I.S.E.): The Institute for Multi-Sensory Education is an approved provider for Arkansas's Reading Initiative for Student Excellence (R.I.S.E.) program for Pathway I. Here is a list of approved providers.

Arizona

Arizona Dyslexia Training Designee: IMSE's training programs meet the criteria of Dyslexia Training Designee, as laid out by the Arizona Department of Education. 

Arizona K-5 Literacy Endorsement Approved Provider: IMSE is an approved provider for Arizona's K-5 Literacy Endorsement. IMSE Comprehensive OG Plus Training (30 Hours) and IMSE Fidelity Course (15 Hours) are both required to fulfill Arizona's Literacy Endorsement. IMSE Comprehensive OG Plus Training was approved in 2021 for Dyslexia, Reading Instruction, and Intensifying instruction. To find a complete list of approved providers, click here.

Colorado

IMSE's Orton-Gillingham has been approved for Colorado's Instructional Programming in both supplemental and intervention for grades K-3 in Phonological Awareness, Phonics and Word Study, Vocabulary and Text Reading Fluency.  Please find more information here.

Idaho

Indiana Approved Dyslexia Training: The Institute for Multi-Sensory Education is an approved provider of dyslexia training in Indiana. You can find more information here.

Maryland

Maryland Leads Grant: The Institute for Multi-Sensory Education is an approved provider for the Maryland Leads Grant in three areas: 1. Science of Reading Program Strategy - Assist LEA's with the development and implementation of strategic plans to provide rigorous professional development to K-3 teachers that is aligned to the science of reading and best literacy practices. 2. Science of Reading Program Strategy - Provides training to K-3 teachers and other relevant staff in the Science of Reading. 3. High Quality School Day Tutoring Program Strategy - provides effective tutoring practices specifically in the area of reading.

Michigan

Michigan Approved Research-based Effective Literacy Program: The Institute for Multi-Sensory Education is an approved professional learning provider for research-based effective literacy instruction in Michigan. Find Michigan's full list of approved providers here.

Nebraska

Nebraska Approved Dyslexia Training: The Institute for Multi-Sensory Education is an approved provider of dyslexia training in Nebraska. You can find more information here.

Ohio

Ohio's Third Grade Guarantee: The Institute for Multi-Sensory Education is an approved provider for Ohio's Third Grade Guarantee. See IMSE on the Ohio Department of Education's official list of approved providers.

IMSE can support Ohio educators in meeting the Ohio requirements for K-3 teachers and District/Site Specialists.

K-3 Teachers: 
As an IDA accredited program, per the Dyslexia Committee’s Guidebook, Ohio K-3 educators can accomplish their required professional development training in the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy by completing either IMSE’s 30-hr Comprehensive (Grades K-2/3) OR 30 hr Intermediate training (Grades 3-5). If you have already completed one of those two IMSE courses, you have successfully met the requirement.

District/Site Intervention Specialists:
One path to meeting the requirement for Ohio’s district/site specialist, per the Dyslexia Committee’s Guidebook, is obtaining the CERI’s (Center for Effective Reading Instruction) Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist Certification. IMSE’s practicum may be used to apply for CERI’s Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist Certification.

Educators that complete one IMSE practicum may apply for the CERI Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist Certificate.

Oklahoma

Approved Science of Reading Professional Development Provider:

Oregon

Oregon Approved Dyslexia Training: The Institute for Multi-Sensory Education is an approved provider of dyslexia-related training in the state of Oregon.  To learn more, click here to see IMSE on the list of approved providers.

Rhode Island

Rhode Island Educator Course Network (ECN): The Institute for Multi-Sensory Education is an approved provider in the ECN Provider List here.  You can find IMSE's ECN provider page here.

Rhode Island Dyslexia/Literacy Endorsement: IMSE is also a RIDE approved provider for the Dyslexia/Literacy Endorsement pathway to proficiency requirement under the Right to Read Act.  Educators can use the following course combinations to meet the proficiency expectation:  

IMSE’s Comprehensive Orton-Gillingham Course + IMSE’s Intermediate Orton-Gillingham Course +  IMSE’s Comprehensive Practicum

or

IMSE's Comprehensive OG+ + Morphology Plus + IMSE's Comprehensive OG+ Practicum

South Carolina

IMSE's Orton-Gillingham courses and practicums have been approved by the South Carolina Departmentof Education to satisfy the Instructional Practices coursework requirement of the Read to Succeed legislation in the following capacities: 

  • Completion of both the Comprehensive/Comprehensive OG+ and Morphology Plus Courses (60 hours of PD) 
  • Completion of both the Comprehensive/Comprehensive OG+ and Intermediate Courses (60 hours of PD) 
  • Completion of the Comprehensive Course and practicum (80 hours of PD) 
  • Completion of the Intermediate Course and practicum (80 hours of PD) 
  • Completion of the Morphology Plus Course and practicum (80 hours of PD); Must be certified in Comprehensive to be eligible for Morphology Plus practicum

Qualifying participants should email credits@imse.com to request their SCDE Certificate of Completion. 

Utah

Utah Tier II and Tier III Reading Interventionist Certification: The Institute for Multi-Sensory Education's Certification programs meet requirements for Utah's Tier II and Tier III Reading Interventionist certification. To learn more, please visit here.

 

Wyoming

IMSE is approved as an external provider for the Wyoming Comprehensive Literacy State Development Grant.
